At Sydney’s Stadium Australia, in front of a world record 110,000 people, the Australian and New Zealand Rugby teams played what many have called “the greatest game of Rugby ever played”.

After just eight minutes the All Blacks were leading by an unbelievable 24 to 0. Miraculously, the Wallabies came back and were leading 35 to 34 when, in the dying moments of the game, the great All Black winger Jonah Lomu scored the winning try.

  1. Disregarding club matches and non-decisive friendlies. The greatest rugby match ever played was RWC Final 1995 NZ vs SA. The most upsetting rugby match of all time. An absolute stunner that turned the rugby world upside down when a down trodden underdog rose up to swipe the cup away in front of the noses of the top dogs. But unfortunately today SA is found in the gutters again due to it's suffocating political quota system. I wish to see these two teams play in full force again one day without the chains of a political system weighing down on the sport in SA. Such a bloody shame.

  2. I bet the English would think their win in the World Cup in 2003 was better, but they would, they are poms.

I remember this game, was for sure the best.

  3. I was at the stadium that day as a kid rooting for the Wallabies. I remember when Jonah Lomu scored that game-winning try, some Aussie fans chucked their cups full of beer in anger. Epic game.
